Principal’s Farewell

Dear parents, friends and school community,

It has been my privilege to serve as teacher and principal in this school since 1981. Indeed, I had been a pupil myself of Christ King Girls (for infant classes), Scoil Chríost Rí, Buachaillí and Colaiste Chríost Rí Presentation schools. Without doubt, I am deeply indebted to the Presentation orders of brothers and sisters for their dedication to these schools and their kindness to me. Suffice to say, my whole life has been deeply connected with these great educational strongholds of the Turner’s Cross area.

Hence, it is with very mixed emotions that I now bow out, as I retire at the upcoming Halloween mid-term break. I am indeed looking forward to a new era in my life and future opportunities. I also have a treasure trove of memories and great friendships from a much fulfilled career. I will have a special and everlasting connection with this school and area. I am eternally grateful to all my colleagues, both present staff and the many who have already joined the happy club of retirement, and some who have gone to their eternal reward. The amazing commitment of all including staff, boards of management, parents associations, trustees, patron etc., has been the cornerstone of the success of this school since it was founded in the late nineteen thirties. But it is the quality and character of the pupils that will be my greatest keepsake. Overseeing them entering as junior infants and progressing and developing to leave for second level is both a joy and the most responsible part of our role as teachers. My experience of pupils who are dedicated, respectful, hardworking, and also great fun, is a microcosm of the quality homes that they emanate from and their parents’ dedication and love.

I wish the whole school community continued success and special good wishes to our new principal, Mr Eoin Fitzpatrick. He is well aware of the high standards and unique traditions of Bunscoil Chríost Rí. He has a great team around him and with your continued support I know the school will continue to thrive.

I sincerely thank everybody for their generous good wishes and kind words of appreciation. It’s certainly going to feel strange not opening the school gates in the morning but I am satisfied that following the recent works to complete the amalgamation process, it is an appropriate time for a new era in Bunscoil Chríost Rí.
